G2B Impact factor

Last week, the Institute for Scientific Information posted the 2006 journal impact factors. For the third consecutive year, Genes, Brain and Behavior has posted an increase and now has an IF of 4.385, ranking it 36th among 199 neuroscience journals. In addition, G2B was listed for the first time this year in the category "Behavioral Sciences".

Here we rank 4th! It should be noted that the 3 journals ranking higher are all review journals, making G2B the highest ranking experimental journal in this category. If we had also been ranked in some other relevant categories, we would have obtained the following rankings:

Genetics: 30

Psychiatry: 13

Although there exists no journal that can be seen as a direct competitor for the same niche as G2B, almost all journals publishing articles in some of the areas covered by us (psychiatric genetics, neurogenetics, behavior genetics, behavioral neuroscience, etc) have impact factors of 1 or more points less!

Allow me to remind you of all the points that make G2B the preferred outlet for your best work:

-Rapid editorial procedures. Despite a huge increase in manuscript submissions, authors receive a first editorial decision generally within 5 weeks of submitting. The G2B editorial team is working hard to reduce this time even more.

-Rapid Online Early publication. In the mean, articles are published online 4-5 weeks after authors return their corrected proofs, which in turn they receive only weeks after their article has been accepted for publication. New articles published Online Early are now included in PubMed within a few days of publication. A new feature introduced this year has been "Online Accepted": within a few days after acceptance, manuscripts are posted online on our Synergy website (http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/loi/GBB).

-Possibility of free color on the web (printed articles are b/w but the web version has color).

-Online Open, the possibility to have your article posted on the Blackwell Synergy site freely available for all for a fixed fee. Blackwell is fully compliant with NIH and Wellcome Trust requirements.

-High visibility of your article. Thousands of institutions all over the world have access to G2B. In addition, the number or persons signing up for electronic tables of contents is growing almost exponentially.

-Free print and online subscription for IBANGS members (join now at http://www.ibangs.org).

Genes, Brain and Behavior aims to publish only the highest quality research. Our Associate Editors and referees generally provide authors with detailed comments to help them improve their manuscripts as much as possible.

Our current rejection rate is over 65% and despite large increases in the numbers of issues and pages published, submissions increase even faster and the rejection rate is therefore expected to rise even further in the near future. Do not let this discourage you from submitting: our rapid editorial process ensures that the risk of rejection is well worth the reward of being published in the most exciting behavioral neurogenetics journal around!

With many thanks to the Associate Editors, Editorial Board members, and the many authors and referees who work very hard to continue to improve our journal!
